Casey, Mary-Heather and I traveled down to rainy Maryland for the awesome Sheep and Wool Festival this past weekend!

We met up with my mom, Ysolda and Laura and had some lime fizzes!

Saw, and were kissed, by some cute animals!

Had two great meetups, on Saturday and Sunday, with tons of friendly Ravelers!

Gave out some special MDS&W buttons:

Enjoyed Guido’s After Party!

… and we ended the weekend sleepy and muddy but very happy!

(Like the Ysolda Teague / Laura Chau / Mary-Heather Cogar traveling trunk show? We were warm goshdarnit!)

Thanks to everyone who came out to say hello!

If you have photos from this weekend or any other Ravelry meetup or event, be sure to add it to our Flickr Events Pool!

(Edited to add details of knitwear, since we are being flooded with emails!)

Looks like you had a great time in spie of rain! I really really need to know: What’s that hat Mary-Heather is wearing??? I just looked for it on her project page and don’t see it. :-)

  2. Jeanie Says:

HELP. I love Casey’s hat. I am sure I have seen the pattern here on Ravelry but where oh where. Can you tell me the name???

I wish I lived on that side of the country so that I to could enjoy the fiber-ous fun that you all were able to enjoy. Rain or shine, I bet it is just wonderful.

  3. Charmed Says:

I think it’s absolutely laughable that every comment so far is asking for a pattern. For shame people, for shame.

    ;)

    Um…psst…Jess…what’s that scarf you’re wearing?

  4. Julie Says:

My 12-year old noticed all the Ravelry “swag”. Do you think I spend too much time on Ravelry when your kid can recognize and then spot the logo halfway across the Main Exhibition hall? You guys know how to throw a party.

  5. Kit Says:

I went to MDSWF and had a great time, though I didn’t make it to the meetup on Saturday. The lime fizzes were delicious! Thanks for posting about it on the site or I never would have heard about it.

  6. Cait Says:

I saw all of you on Sunday in one of the exhibition barns, but was too shy to say hello. I wish I hadn’t been. All of your knitwear was lovely!

Looks like a great time. I am looking forward to Rhinebeck this fall. I went for the first time last fall since I had just moved from VT-missed the meetups but not this year.
Just wanted to let you know that it was such fun to receive my daughter’s (’06) alumni magazine (UNH!) and see you featured inside. I didn’t realize you were from UNH. I went out to San Diego to visit her at the beginning of April and took the issue out to her. I had to show her your highlight & kept saying “See, this is what Ravelry is all about…”
Courtney then went on and found an item I have to knit for her. Your site is wonderful-Many kudos to all!

  25. Jeanne Says:

Looks like a good time was had by all!!

  26. Donna Says:

Oh! It looks like such a wonderful place to have been with all the great people and animals and so much to see and do. I wish I lived closer to the great happenings or had unlimited funds to join in the fun. Everything seems to be on either coast, not in the middle west where I live.

Ah, well, I will be having fun in a couple of weeks when my friends come to share in the shearing fun and see my 12 llamas have their coats trimmed.

All of you are adorable and I am so grateful to be in this very unique group of friends. Thank you for sharing your stories and pictures!!!

  27. stephanie norris Says:

Great photos and blogs about your trip. Thank You for sharing! Looking forward to the Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs this Fall.

  28. LisaDinPA Says:

Sob. I was there. Really I was. But I already had a Rav name tag button and didn’t feel like fighting the crowd on Saturday, so I stayed in the corner and chatted with the people around me.

I didn’t know there were special Bob buttons!!! Please, pretty please, if there’s any way I could get one (I’ll pay postage!), please contact me!

  29. Georgia Says:

I’m soooo sad that I was not able to attend this year!! Looks like the group had a blast! I’ll definately be joining the fun next year!

  30. maryse Says:

you guys look like you had a great time!

did you bring me anything? no?

    ;)

  31. JoAnn Erfer Says:

I love that you guys were greeted like rock stars. In some sphere’s that’s exactly what you are!

  32. Jessica Kaluza Says:

You all looked like you had a blast!

  33. Yogini Says:

The event was great, but we need to petition the festival folks to have better food. And a beer tent…

  34. Jules Says:

    Sounds like great fun.
    Wish I was there!

  35. Yayayarndiva Says:

I loved the pics especially the ones with our woolly friends…

Wish Maryland wasn’t so far away from California.

  36. knitmom7 Says:

I was in Herndon,Va with non knitters and missed it! I only ask that you do not judge me by the company I keep! Maybe later!

  37. morningsprite Says:

We tried to get in to the Rabbit building on Sunday, but just couldn’t get past the mudd. I hope you come back next year!

  40. sohoskirt Says:

Yes, please! I must have the pattern for the hat on the fella in the big picture. I know I’ve seen it on Ravelry before but can’t find it now…

  44. Linda Says:

Was at Sheep & Wool; beautiful yarns; also enjoyed the animals and the food

  45. Dutch Jan Says:

    I want that BUTTON!!!!!! please?????

  46. Donna Marie Says:

Went with my daughter(10) and my sister-in-law. I had no idea you would be there. My daughter collects pins, and is dying for a ravelry pin. Her birthday is coming up at the end of this month. Anyway I can get her hooked up?
We were all pretty soggy, but were glad to spend the day with fellow yarnies. I even got a compliment on my very first real sweater! I have only been knitting for a year and a half, so that was amazing!
The lamb sandwiches were delicious, but I must say we felt a bit guilty after petting all the sheep.
I will be sure to look for you ahead of time next year.

  47. Marie/ TiaRee Says:

I didn’t get a button. I really would like a button with Bob’s picture. I know he missed it and had to stay in the hotel, but do you think he might have a button for me?

  48. Marie/ TiaRee Says:

Someone at the festival asked me what Ravelry was. When I explained she said “Oh, I thought you guys were on some kind of field trip” I convinced her she needed us.

  49. Charlotte Says:

Woow, would I have liked to be there. Perhaps some other time. It’s a long trip from Norway, but it sure would have been awesome!

  50. martha Says:

wish you guys were on the west coast. looks like lots of fun.

    martha

  51. zortified Says:

Every time I come to Rav I see that photo of everyone drinking lime fizzies and it MAKES ME WANT ONE. And there are none to be had in my area. It is mean and cruel and you should just be done with it and put up photos of yarn and chocolate as well.

  52. richtergasse Says:

zortified, I’m totally with you. I have had a huge craving for lime fizzes lately, particularly when logging onto Ravelry…

  53. Holly Kubick Says:

    Hi,
I grew up in MD and loved the sheep and wool festival. Sorry the weather was so wet for you. I hope to make it back there for the festival one of these days.
    Holly

  54. Betsy Matos Says:

I am in love with the elephant that someone is holding in the picture on the main page. can anyone please tell me if a pattern is available? Thank you soooo much for this site. Though I rarely post anything, I make sure to check this site for new patterns posted, as well as any new ideas that I may be looking for.

  55. Theresa Kehrer Says:

It was my first time at MS&W and tho muddy and chilly and on crutches, had a fab time. So sad to have missed the Ravelry meetup, and wish I had one of the cool Bob buttons, but loved the event anyway! Thanks to my loving hubby for making sure I was able to get there. Already looking forward to next year!

  56. Sandra Boland (Pantz07) Says:

I just wanted to say thanks for setting up this site. I am new to knitting but am addicted and the Ravelry site is awesome!!!!!!!!!!! I need to change my user name to something more appropriate like…msknitalot or knitaddict.
    Thanks again..LOVE Ravelry!

    Sandra

Can you tell me where to find the pattern for the great cowl that Laura is wearing in the last picture. I’m going to rip out the one I’m knitting right now and start over if I can get that beauty.

    Thanks, Barbara

  60. Katie Says:

It looks like everybody had fun. This is my first real visit to ravelry since I got my invitation. I wish i could have been there and look foreward to checking out the patterns and people.

  63. kathy b Says:

I am thrilled with your pciture. Delighted you are wearing your ?scarves or shawls around your neck with the point in the front. I wanted to start the trend, but you did it for me! Hooray

  64. LauraB Says:

Looks like fun, really like the hats you are wearing.
I’m a hat girl, especially since I go my hair cut short for summer, and it’s still a bit nippy outside. I’ve got to make more hats.

  65. scotty Says:

You all look lovely - and what gorgeous knitwear to boot.

  66. Valerie Dalton Says:

You guys inspire me! I love seeing your smiling faces. I continually rave to other knitters about the fabulous job your team does and what a wonderful source Ravelry is for knitters/crocheters. I am definitely an “evangelist” for your site. As an almost 60 year old who has only been knitting for a few years and one who has had a few months of web page training along with some past years of programming, I am in awe of your accomplishments. Data base management par excellence, combined with enthusiasm for the crafts, good natured humor and obviously many hours of work. Go Ravelry Team!

And you all look fabulous in your knit wear. Might even inspire me to actually wear a hat one of these days. :o) Hope to eventually be able to attend an event and thank you all in person.

    Valerie (DancingWoman)

  67. Ricki (Sundogstudios) Says:

A brief video memoir of a fun soggy day…

  68. Jennifer Liang Says:
