It’s warming up here in the US, which means that festival season is here! This summer, we’ll be traveling quite a bit, and it all begins this weekend with Maryland Sheep and Wool!

We have our official MDSW Meetup times and locations! On Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, we are meeting in the Rabbit Buildling from 12:00 - 1:00 pm. Click on the dates to check out their event pages right here on Ravelry, so that you can RSVP!

You can check out the location of the Rabbit Building on the Fairgrounds Map page of the MDSW site; here is a little closeup:

If you haven’t yet, go ahead and mark that you were attending MDSW on its own Ravelry Events page! :)

The Maryland Sheep and Wool volunteers are always so helpful in finding a space that is accessible to all, available for use, and large enough to fit a whole bunch of Ravelry members and curious Ravelers-to-be in between their other scheduled events. We’re so pleased to be able to have a good spot for our meetup! Last year, on Saturday, we were pretty crowded (heh) when trying to fit everyone inside the Rabbit Building, but there is a lot of space on the lawns all around it so we’re able to spread out, which is great.

We’ll have buttons to hand out at the scheduled meetups and sharpies so that you can write your usernames on them. We really can’t wait to meet everyone and say hello!

Wish I were going. Maybe I can plan to go next year! It is far from New Mexico, but close to a good friend. Have lots of fun, so I can live vicariously!

I’ll be there . . . a first for me. I’m packing up the car now for the roadtrip from Ohio. Yay!

If you are anywhere close enough to go to this wonderful event - GO. My cousin and I went a few years ago and had a wonderful time. There is way more than enough to look at to keep one busy and happy for the whole weekend. Wish I were close enough to be able to go.

  6. Virginia O'Connor Says:

Will you post your visiting schedule so we know where you will be headed this summer? For instance, are you going to the Estes Park Wool Market? Thanks!

  7. Rosemary Says:

Thanks for asking that, Virginia! A list of events would be very helpful to have in advance.

  8. Dalyn Says:

Got my lunch packed and coffee in hand… ready to head out. My first time!

Hope to see you out on the West Coast sometime this season. Maybe sock summit?

  10. Christine Says:

I agree with moirae, the Sock Summit is gonna rock socks. You should be there. It’d be great to see you again, even if there’s no Portos Cafe around Portland. ;D JazzDiva

A schedule would be great. I’m going to attend NH Sheep and Wool this coming weekend, and I’m wondering if Jess and Casey will be there.

  12. Rebecca Says:

I had a great time this weekend. After Sunday, I think Ravelry should also sell umbrellas!

For the first time in the 23 years I’d been going to Maryland Sheep and Wool I missed it on purpose.
I believe the festival itself is not much changed over the years–great fun and inspirational, but the crowds!!
The word has spread–a free fun day out. There are far fewer sheep and wool enthusiasts and more people looking for a day out. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it is too crowded for comfort. Mind you there are many many “right minded” attendees as one can witness by the cues of 20 or 30 people waiting to pay for something at a stall. Although I live in DC, I would like to go the Rhinebeck, NY festival held in the Autumn. For one thing by charging admission only the more serious type will attend.

Drat. I am so disappointed to have missed the gathering again. Thought I wrote down the meetup times straight from Ravelry, earlier in the week, but when I walked over to the rabbit building on Sunday at 1:30pm, there were 4-H kids looking at animal organs, not a Ravelry pin in sight. Happened at last year’s Rhinebeck as well.

Once a time in the 20 years I’d been going to Maryland Sheep and Wool I missed it…And Yes, I also think that Revelry should sell Umbrellas at the time of holidays………
