A video message on a special day
April 10th, 2009
Ravelry has been around for nearly 2 years now but the idea was actually dreamed up on April 11th, 2005. You can see the original baby of an idea over on Jess’ blog.
Ravelers have since dubbed April 11th “Bobmas” which means that today is Bobmas Eve. Last year, yarn shops and knitting and crochet groups got together and celebrated with yarn, cupcakes, bobtinis (really!), pints, and um… silly hats?
This time we put together a short video message for everyone. It’s a little hello from the 4 of us (+ dogs) along with some photos from some meetups and events from the last year. Thank you to redplaid Kellie and The Superior Crafters of the North for giving us us the idea!
Thank you all so much for spending time with us and Ravelry this year!

There are things I find absolutely amazing. Like here you are, thanking us for making Ravelry a success and here we are thanking you rare creatures for creating this new universe for us. A universe where you pulled people together from all walks of life, all ages, all genders and lifestyles. All people with at least one thing in common, the love of fiber, or the desire to love it (for those newbies). And here we share not just our patterns and techniques, but the joys and sorrows of our lives, the charity here in all of us is astounding. Fiber geeks are givers, that is for sure. And you see others’ projects and situations from different points of views and it just grows. We have people just giving away yarn and patterns, supplies that they no longer need…bartering here for yarn we covet. A Mutual Admiration Society in the most awesome of ways. We have our Rock Stars (the four of you, the amazing designers and spinners, yarnies, artists of all sorts!), and they inspire new artists. We are Groupies, in that any chance to Kinnear one of you is immediately taken!!
Yet you are normal people, not gods. “Everyday people” indeed. And this universe fits so well into our everyday lives. We talk about the people here as if we have known each other forever. Like we have coffee every morning, because this is where I go when I have mine. We support one another as close friends and family do, and are always there in times of need and times of celebration, even a lesser holiday (!) like April Fool’s Day. I was in higher spirits for days from what happened here that day. I have met so many people here and have yet to scratch the surface of the over 300 K Ravelers here. And still, with all that it is, it is still a BETA site, which is just amazing to me. I know going public has been debated, but this site is more fluid than any site I can think of, and that is what keeps us coming here, obsessively ;). Two years and no need to reinvent yourself like so many other sites do. I see into the future, a 60 year old Casey ready to pass along the Rav torch to his child and asking, “now, what’s next on the Wish List?”
This community has enbravened many of us to be more public about our crafts, and seek others who share in it. And such good has come of it. Collaborative efforts bringing people together from all over the world. Huge projects that would take one or two people much longer to make, finished in a matter of months. In a recent project, a square was needed in a hurry and ChristaV from the Netherlands whipped one up and sent it out within a day. People unconcerned with the minor expense of contributing.
A universe where, while we all will never agree on everything, the majority of us are happy to “agree to disagree”, respect each other’s opinions and go on with our days. A place to dream and the resources to make many dreams come true. Invaluable. Each of us is important in this community and I am grateful to belong here. It is my happy place :).
Thank you Jess, Casey, Erica, Mary-Heather and Ravelry!

Can I say that Ravelry has actually changed my life?
I signed on as a knitter and then once I started ‘exploring’ I found spinning and found LOADS of advice which has helped me develop my very limited spinning skills.
Thank you oh so very much!!!!

This is the single best site I have ever used for ANYTHING since I started using the interwebs in 1992! Who knew that something so high tech could help you do something so low tech? LOL. Thank you so much! The tools here have been invaluable, and have made me a better knitter much faster than I could have done it alone.

Awesome! Love the video! Especially the song choice! I especially noted the crocheted “Bob” that someone in the vid was holding! Cool!
Thanks for Ravelry! New Years Day this year was the start of a whole new world for me! I especially love the INTERNATIONALITY (is that a word? LOL!) of Ravelry! I went to Lebanon last week, and wrote to the Lebanon group about where to find a LYS, and received a reply that took me right to it! How awesome is THAT?!
April 17th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Late to the party as always, LOL. Happy Bobmas anyway. Love the choice of music = perfect; Love Ravelry. Thanks for all you do. Hugs to Bob and his co-stars.

Happy Belated Bobmas! Ravelry is just the greatest site ever! Sometimes I almost take it for granted, but today I was adding some magazines to my Rav library and adding some patterns from the magazine to my queue and I stopped and thought - wow - this site is so amazing!
I still don’t use it to it’s full potential, but it’s nice that you keep adding new and great features and it is just so fun and easy to use.
I just can’t say enough about how grateful I am that you created this site!!!

I had no idea that RAVELRY was so young.
My daughter and I joined about a year ago and are addicts.
RAVELRY (and knitting) is so therapeutic, relatively an inexpensive hobby/skill/art, and an entertaining social outlet.
Congratulations on your success.
April 21st, 2009 at 10:42 am
Happy Belated Bobmas! I realize that I started knitting about the same time Ravelry got off the ground though I didn’t join till much later. I wish there was a fiber festival near southern Ohio so I could meet some of you.
Btw Bob is so cute he deserves a cookie. And an ear rub.
April 21st, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Well, I wanted to join and wish you all a very happy Bobmas. Thank you so much for having this great idea, and made a dream come true.
I can’t spend a day without checking out what’s new on Ravelry, and I love it.
For me who live in France, seeing this video was a great moment, realizing how many we are and how we are linked by this ravelry thread.

April 22nd, 2009 at 9:18 am
That was soooo stinkin’ CUTE!!! I LOVE you guys!!!!
…and I too would like to know, what’s IN a bobtini?
April 22nd, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Are you guys the cutest people (and dogs) in the whole world? I think so. What makes me sad tho is that on Bobmas, I was working in my LYS and my wallet was stolen by two supposed customers. They were not really customers, but two women on the scam. Isn’t that sad? They didn’t feel the love. Anyway, I;ve had everything replaced now, except one thing - the my wallet was my favorite picture of my dog, Bella, who I had to put down about 6 weeks ago. It kinda made me lose my faith in humanity. But you guys have helped restore it with this darling video and your continued devotion to Ravelry, your great gift to us all. Thanks - and Happy Bobmas. Ravelry Rules!

Hey - nice vid. Dh is a sound designer and could help you out with some sound/mixing for the next Bobmas if you are so inclined. Since the VP is a knitter, I’m sure his rates would be most excellent! His website is http://www.richcutlersoundmix.com/ Happy Bobmas!!!

And a Merry Bobmas to you also. In a wonderful incident of serendipity, April 11 is not only a Ravelry Birthday, but my OWN birthday also :)
Thankyou for lifting my interest in knitting out of the realms of (ugh) fun fur scarves and into something far nicer!!
Disclaimer - not that there’s any thing WRONG with fun fur scarves, per se…

Hi - my grandparents had a dog like yours, named Tuffy. They lived in the middle of the Andes in South America. Tuffy used to bring the farm’s bull home every night… by leaping up repeatedly until he got ahold of its nose! The bull (rather grumpily, I presume) went straight to the barn to regain its nose. I guess it didn’t hurt ’cause it went on every day for several years.

Belated Bombas all. I finally watched the video–thanks for leaving it up so long for those of us who have drug our feet. I absolutely love Ravelry. What a genius idea. I wish you long, continued success with Ravelry. Can’t wait to see what future plans are. I took a look at Frecklegirls blog. Absolutely loved the photo of your and Casey’s grandparents (I know Grandpa is deceased). What a lovely tribute to them. This touches me, as a Grandmother, and as the founder of Grandma’s Hand on Ravelry. I’m wordy. Thanks for everything guys!

Bob is adorable. Almost as cute as Onyx and Guin, who happen to be our own fur-people.
