Squam Art Workshops
February 4th, 2009
Peanut butter + chocolate, wool + needles, coffee + cream and now? Ravelry + Squam. Woohoo!
Come see us up in one of our favorite parts of the world, Squam Lake in New Hampshire.

One of my longtime blog friends, Elizabeth (of bluepoppy) has organized a incredible textile retreat running June 3-7, 2009. Casey and I will be there and I seriously can’t wait to take some of these classes! (Summer at Squam Lake pretty much sounds like heaven to me just now, with the snow coming down here in Boston!)
There will be a Ravelry event on Saturday night, June 6th (more details to follow)
Registration opened on the 2nd- so check it out! 18 knitting classes with simply fabulous teachers, gorgeous location, and yummy food! To get a feel for what it’s all about, go here to the “raves” section and watch a slideshow.
Teacher descriptions here- lots of familiar faces!
We also have a Squam Art Workshops group set up here on Ravelry- come by and ask questions or you can email info AT squamartworkshops DOT com

[Update!] Elizabeth has provided 4 books for us to give away! So comment on this post and we will pull 4 winners! Deadline for submitting your comment is tomorrow, 2/5 at 5pm EST.
There are two books for the giveaway: Ordinary Sparkling Moments (ONE copy) and Roots and Recollections: A Century of Rockywold-Deephaven Camps (THREE copies).

Ordinary Sparkling Moments by Christine Mason Miller (www.christinemasonmiller.com) was launched at Squam Art Workshops in 2008. It is a beautiful book that explores the ways in which we can find and celebrate creative inspiration in our daily lives.
Roots and Recollections: A Century of Rockywold-Deephaven Camps by Megan Thorn recounts the extraordinary creation of the RDC camps that was founded in 1897 by two amazing visionaries: Alice Mabel Bacon and Mary Alice Armstrong. Published in 1997 to commemorate a century of stewardship and continued success, the book features stunning, archival photographs of the people, the distinctive architecture of the camps and above all the dramatic beauty of the Squam Lakes region. Naturally, the book is also replete with stories and anecdotes about this unique family camp that is steeped in rich tradition.

Squam Lake sounds lovely, shame it’s such a long way from the UK. I think Ravelry should go on tour to the UK then we can join in all the fun too!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
The book about Ordinary Sparkling Moments seems timely to me. This has been a hard winter, creative inspiration welcome!
Time at a lake, knitting. Man does that sound like a nice idea right this moment!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
I really hope to go to this! It looks wonderful.
February 4th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Looks like fun!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:14 pm

February 4th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
I saw an ad for this a few weeks ago. It looks so fantastic. I wish I could go. Sigh
February 4th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Squam Lake!! That’s 1/2 an hour from my home town! It’s such a beautiful place. Too bad I’m going to be in New York working….*sigh*….
February 4th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Oh, how I would love to come! It looks so inviting. This will be put on my wish list in case my lotto #s are drawn.
February 4th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Even reading about the classes makes me feel creative! wowsa!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:25 pm

February 4th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Woot! I love retreats, yarn arts and books.
February 4th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
Can I bring my kids?
February 4th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
oh how i wish australia was closer to the US :(
February 4th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
That looks like a lovely place to be! I’m afraid California is just too far away this year!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
Now I’m busy daydreaming and planning…oh the possibilities… can I go? Hmmm… a wonderful getaway. I need to work this into my schedule somehow :)
February 4th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Sigh. Perfect venue for a killer workshop.
February 4th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
If only I could talk DH into a trip to CA… a bit far from Ohio…
February 4th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Aw man, I want to squam!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
I wish that I could make it. It looks wondermous!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Oh the desire is there but not the money! Guess that’s what happens when your husband has been out of work for seven months!
Everyone who can, ENJOY!!
I’ll be with you in spirit!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Alas, some major vet bills have pretty much nixed the possibility of my traveling for quite some time. The retreat sounds like it will be great, though!
February 4th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Okay, I’m intrigued. After I get my comment in for a chance at the books, I’m off to the class list to ogle.
I spent several summers in Vermont when my Grandad was alive, I’d love to get back to the area. We’ll see if school schedule and budget allow…
February 4th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Awesome! Wish I lived back east…
February 4th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
I wish I was around in June! This sounds awesome.
February 4th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
What a beautiful site. It reminds me of many summers as a camp counselor. Wish I could go to the retreat, but I just scored concert tickets for the 6th. Any possibility of a fall weekend too?
February 4th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
That sounds wonderful - I almost wish we weren’t at the Cape that weekend.
February 4th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
This sounds so awesome! the Summer and Fall one alike!
It would be really hard to choose the classes though, since one I’d want to take is 3 days long, it wouldn’t allow you to take any other classes. I’m going to have to think about this, although I am moving back east this Spring!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
What a beautiful area, and a perfect time of year to visit. And classes, too. It will fill up quickly!
Cathy
February 4th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Beautiful picture. And no Gators!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
I am TOTALLY going to go!!!! I live in VT, soooo close to squam, and I am thrilled!!! I cannot wait.
February 4th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Ah, the possibility of running away for a weekend of fiber-y goodness in early June . . . may be just too good to be true!!
:O)
February 4th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
The thought of a fiber weekend in the summer on the lake is wonderful right now!!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Sounds awesome!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Can I clone myself? I want to go to all the classes.
February 4th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Oh what I wouldn’t give to be perched on that tree limb in the dead of summer. It looks like an absolutly lovely place to knit!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
What a beautiful reminder that snow, ice and cold weather do not last all year long!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Wow, wish that was our backyard. What lovely, inspirational books, hope I win!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Hello everyone and THANKS Jess– you love bunny! All your enthusiasm and feedback is just so lovely. I just wanted to jump in and answer ewenkintty’s question about kids. You are welcome to bring your children, however, it would not be appropriate for the children to attend the classes so there would need to be some kind of childcare arrangement in place. We do not have childcare to offer, I’m afraid– but it is fabulous for kids as in the summer it’s a full on family camp. Loads to do. So, if you want further details, do please email me directly. I’m happy to help. Cheers, Elizabeth elizabeth@squamartworkshops.com
February 4th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
I’m very sad I’m living in Europe right now… :(
February 4th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Oh to be living in USA! It will be winter here by then.
February 4th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Right now I’m imagining myself sitting on the rock in the first picture. It’s 20 degrees F. here in mid-Missouri, and that lake looks like heaven. I can almost feel the warm sun and cool breeze. I can hear the water gently slapping against the rock. I have my knitting with me (waterproof bag) and I’m settling in for an imaginary afternoon of peace.
Wish I could come see it for myself.
February 4th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Man those pictures of the lake have me excited!! What a beautiful place to knit, er… be, at!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Dude! This is right in my back yard! I grew up on Squam Lake and still work in that area… I gotta check this out!
February 4th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Please come to Seattle for workshops! Oh God, I am so jealous. That is going to be amazing. Have fun, lucky peoples…
February 4th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
Peace, love, fiber, Ravelry, and now nature at its finest. What more could one need? Maybe a free book? ;)
February 4th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Peace, love, fiber, Ravelry, and now nature at its finest. What more could one need? Maybe a free book? ;)
(apparently I’m so excited by the photo & giveaway that I can’t even type my own name)
February 4th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
What fun! You guys always have some new trick up your sleeve, don’t you? :)
February 4th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
I started reading just for the photo I saw…then the next photo on the dock…finally about the retreat and 2 books. You guys are doing so well on this site!! This is one of my favorite places (besides on the couch w/ hubs and my needles) to be.
I look forward to finding out more. Be well.
February 4th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Ooo What a wonderful event! I would love to go to an event like this! Especially the location, but alas, its a tad bit too far for me (being in California).
Those books seem super interesting! Especially Ordinary Sparkling Moments by Christine Mason Miller, when you mentioned it “explores the ways in which we can find and celebrate creative inspiration in our daily lives.” being in and out of classes all day, creativity is always appreciated. ;D
Hope I can win in the drawing! ^^*
February 4th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Sure would enjoy the retreat. The photos make it very inviting.
I would love to read the books. Hope I win one.
February 4th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
It looks beautiful there!
February 4th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
I bet there are loons on Squam Lake. That reminds me that I should post my pattern for a loon vest. I made it for my dad in the 80’s.
February 4th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
What a fantastic looking retreat! If I can just convince my employers to put together the June schedule before the registration deadline . . .
February 4th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
After 6 months of winter, I would love to be able to visit the Squam Lake!!!
February 4th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
I live a little over an hour from there and have never actually been. Maybe this will be a good way to start. :-)
February 4th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Ooooh new books on knitting!
February 4th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Oooh, how lovely. I wonder if I can finesse another trip out of the budget…
February 4th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
Oh, wow, I wish I could go!
February 4th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Oh! I wish I lived closer so I could attend some of the great events I see happening back east! Maybe someday I’ll learn to quit spending all my money on yarn and could save for a trip like this. LOL.
February 4th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Oooooo looks like heaven on earth….
Enjoy!
February 4th, 2009 at 6:14 pm
I wanna go!!! This sounds so fun. Good food and good fun! Thanks for the info.
February 4th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
Oh, that looks fantastic! I grew up nearby and haven’t been back in years. It’s a gorgeous area.
February 4th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Oooh, that sure sounds lovely! Beautiful scenery, knitting, chocolate, knitting, peace, ahhhh! Pure bliss. I dream of going, but alas, I am unable to, for a variety of really good reasons :) The expense being at the top of the list, but like another Raveler said, if I didn’t spend all my money on yarn and books and patterns, etc etc, I may find enough (cash) to attend one of your lovely knitting retreats! Good luck to everyone and Happy Knitting!
February 4th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Maybe if I enter twice, I’ll have a chance to win a book!
Oooh, that sure sounds lovely! Beautiful scenery, knitting, chocolate, new friends knitting, peace, ahhhh! February 4th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Oh that looks like a lovely place for a knitting retreat! I’d love to go but it’s too far from florida and i have no extra funds these days for travel. Winning one of the books would be a very nice consolation prize.
♥ Kelly
February 4th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
OOOOo! Pick me, pick me! I moved back up to here in the Great White North of Ohio a couple years ago….from Florida. I would love to see all the wonderful scenes…without snow… and classes…without snow…and hanging around with more yarn nuts…without snow. Please…I need a break!
February 4th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
I wish I lived closer - I live in Washington state…way across the USA from New Hampshire. The lake looks lovely.
February 4th, 2009 at 6:42 pm

February 4th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
This looks so amazing! What a great vacation this would be!
February 4th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
The outstretched arms in the picture make me feel like raising my arms and stretching. They are just a little tired and sore right now from shoveling snow. What a beautiful idea and area.
February 4th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
With so many interesting classes the trouble will be deciding which ones to go to. What a great idea.
February 4th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Time to pull out the pouty eyes and say to DH: “If you REALLY loved me… (You’d let me go!) But really, what a great time this will be for anyone who goes!
February 4th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Oh, Please CHOOSE me!! Especially since I can’t go to fabulous New Hampshire, where I always wish I could be…
February 4th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
Wow! A retreat! Sounds amazing! I wish I could go! :D
But prizes are always so much fun! Pick me, pick me!! Hehe :D:D
February 4th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Blue sky and sun…….I loved the pics mainly because I can’t see out my living room window because of all the snow piled up. Please post more pics like this even if there is no reward. Of course winning books is always lovely too.
February 4th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
I’m so jealous! I wish I could go!
February 4th, 2009 at 7:15 pm

February 4th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
That looks beautiful, I wish I could go….but I’m on the other side of the universe in Australia, we are having a heatwave and Lake Squam is cool and inviting!
February 4th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Oh how wonderful, wish I could go. Maybe some day!
February 4th, 2009 at 7:24 pm

February 4th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
This sounds fabulous. My LYS is closing, which means no knitting retreat this year. Now I will have a replacement!
February 4th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
Hrm… just how far is it from Melbourne, Australia to Squam??? Very tempting (as long as no planes are involved!)…
February 4th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Ooooo, this sounds fun!!! And close to home, too.
February 4th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Lake Squam in New Hampshire in the summer? Heaven on earth! I love the picture at the end of the dock, too. You can just go and relax, enjoy, be around so many creative people. I will definitely try to come. Thanks for coming up with such a wonderful retreat!
February 4th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
I’d *love* to be able to attend the art workshops this summer. It’s so close to home! But I just don’t have the funds to make it happen. So I’d settle for winning a book!
February 4th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Ordinary Sparkling Moments sounds like a wonderful book. I’ll be looking for it even if I don’t win the drawing!
February 4th, 2009 at 8:53 pm

February 4th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
I worked at Rockywold-Deephaven!! For a few weeks one Summer when I was going to college at Plymouth State College. I was a cottage cleaner. I can’t remember if I got fired or I quit…I might have quit to go to a Grateful Dead concert! Squam Lake is “on Golden Pond”…
February 4th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
This place looks like heaven on earth. I thought, It’s going on my bucket list. But I need to get there way before I start doing stuff off a list!

Linda
February 4th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
I’m looking for creative inspiration in everything these days… recent inspirations for my knitting were in the Stained Glass Museum in Chicago. Unbelievably beautiful… can’t wait to make a sweater using those motifs.

February 4th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
I just learned about Squam and I want to go so badly!
February 4th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
That retreat sounds lovely! I wish it was something I could go to but alas, my internships starts then and employers always frown when you show up late due to something “silly” (last year I ditched the first week to go to a fandom convention! I was not their favorite intern that summer, no siree)
February 4th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
I would love a book as I will be unable to make these awesome workshops. Have fun and thanks!
February 4th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Looks warm! Would be nice alternative to snow! Those books look great! New Hampshire is so far away from West Virginia though!
February 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm

February 5th, 2009 at 12:38 am
Oh my gosh!! I grew up in campton and went to high school in plymouth , used to skip school in the spring to waterski on little squam and worked on Moon island on big sqaum one summer, counted the loons as well! (i have a touch of fondness for this area, obviously!) I have only made it home once in 14 years….maybe!!!! Would love to make it back east and visit the homesteads and have fun with this with mom!
February 5th, 2009 at 12:41 am

February 5th, 2009 at 6:33 am
Oh, I would so like to go but I already have another commitment for the that time. I would be so nice to be able to get together with other fiber artists in a beautiful setting to learn more about our craft. I love that Ravelry notifies us about these events and promotes them.
Thank you Ravelry for being.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:38 am
Ah, it looks like it’ll be enormous fun! Shame I’m in the UK!! I’m looking forward to reading all about the jolly japes on Ravelry after the event. :)
February 5th, 2009 at 6:40 am
Wait, I just woke up , am easily suggestible, and not quite sure why I’m here. Someone mention a lake and peanut butter and chocolate and wool, so I followed them. ;)
February 5th, 2009 at 7:01 am
It sounds fantastic. But no way to be there. The new world is far way. Not possible to be there.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:17 am
Wow! How I wish that I could go! All that time learning and knitting and crocheting without kids to bother me! LOL
What a great opportunity!
February 5th, 2009 at 7:20 am
this looks great and i’m glad it’s something close enough to me that there is a chance i can go!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 7:28 am
Sounds brilliant - and summer sounds great too - sitting in a very cold and artic-y Scotland at the moment. Too far for me but boy, am I jealous!
February 5th, 2009 at 7:36 am
WOW! I would love to read the books! Hope you pick me…
February 5th, 2009 at 8:03 am
I live so close to Squam….I’m going! Wheeee!
February 5th, 2009 at 8:09 am
WOW, I had no idea that Squam existed. My soul is aching to attend and I will find a way, financially to do it!! I must….thanks Rav for enlightening me!
February 5th, 2009 at 8:29 am
Nothing beats knitting by the lake in the summer!
This events sounds wonderful.

February 5th, 2009 at 8:35 am
It sounds like so much fun, wish I could go. Looks like a great place to learn and knit
February 5th, 2009 at 8:40 am
Sounds marvelous! I wish I could get away for that long, but I am sure that whoever does will really really enjoy it!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 8:50 am
Wow, that looks and sounds absolutely amazing - what a stunning location for it!
Hope everyone that goes has a fabulous time, us left behind will just have to live vicariously through the photos and stories :)
February 5th, 2009 at 8:51 am
I can hardly wait to show the website photos to my DH. This is a definite possibility. Delightful classes, beautiful location, Ravelry excitement. WOW
February 5th, 2009 at 8:57 am
free knitting book? sounds wonderful!
February 5th, 2009 at 8:59 am
Oh wow. I just read about this on Alicia Paulson’s blog and now I want to go to both the June and September offerings! I really wish I could go to this. I’ll have to see if I can juggle finances…
February 5th, 2009 at 9:03 am
This sounds so fun!!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:08 am
This retreat sounds like enrichment for the soul….
February 5th, 2009 at 9:10 am
That does sound like a dream!! Just a lot above my budget right now.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:12 am
Squam Lake looks ridiculously beautiful! I could sit on that dock for hours!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:12 am
Dreaming of Retreating breaks up my Wisconsin February cabin fever. Seeing the beautiful books and pictures of the lake during the summer gives me hope that this winter will, in fact, end. And free knitting stuff rocks.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:15 am
Those books are lovely!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:16 am
oh, i wished i lived closer, sounds so exciting!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:21 am
OMG! After reading thru the front about the classes and how fun it would be I started praying about how awesome that would be to get to go and about how if He wanted to throw a chance at me getting to go my way it would NOT go unnoticed. Then I scroll down and SEE …”The lonely knitter (who found out about the classes too). She too is in parayer (to the yarn gods) about getting to go.”
Just struck me a giggle thats all. DeJaVue (sp?)
February 5th, 2009 at 9:21 am
Here is a part of the world I’ve never even heard of. Perhaps someday i can check it out!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:34 am
I’m going to start saving now…for 2010! Wow! The classes look awesome. I’m going to set an intention to receive a windfall, so I can go this year.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:54 am
Wish I could go to the workshop. Hoping to win a book to live it vicariously.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:56 am
It certainly looks beautiful there - a long long way from Texas! And so many classes I got wore out from reading the list! Still, maybe someday…anyway, I will take a chance on winning a book. Thanks for all you guys do! I love Ravelry!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:56 am
Looks like a great time!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:58 am
This looks so fun, and the books look great…I’m particularly excited about Roots and Recollections
February 5th, 2009 at 9:59 am
This sounds like a wonderful weekend. I hope I will be able to go!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:22 am
oooh this sounds interesting!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:37 am
Looks wonderful.. Wish I could go.
February 5th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Ooooo! It looks beautiful … such a shame I am in the UK :(
February 5th, 2009 at 10:49 am
A textile retreat at a gorgeous lake, how I wish I could be at Squam Lake with you! I sure hope you post more beautiful photos so we can all attend in spirit!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:53 am
I am sending in my registration today! The funny thing is, I decided to sign up for painting classes as my first choice… but I will definitely bring my knitting. :-)
February 5th, 2009 at 10:57 am
I did go over to investigate the classes and teachers. Everything looks just great with a good variety for different interests. The setting looks ideal.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Sooo do you think I should change my wedding date (June 6th) so I can go to this?????? Decisions decisions…
February 5th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Will we really have summer this year? It’s so hard to believe in today…
February 5th, 2009 at 11:25 am
OH that’s such a neat sounding event! I’d love to read up on the history of the camps!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Oh wow! Do I wish I could go to something like this!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:41 am
ooo I want to go on a textile retreat… Nature + yarn + great people = so much fun!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Knitting retreats are so much fun! I’m sad that I won’t be able to make this one….
February 5th, 2009 at 11:55 am
That sounds like fun. I would want to go if it were closer. Unfortunately I’m in California.
February 5th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
I wish i had the time and money to go, that picture looks so relaxing.
Courtney
February 5th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Roots and Reflections go hand in hand to explain my Ordinary Sparkling Moments! - which are in no way ordinary. What a beautiful place to reflect. I am in no way” of the caliber” as the wonderful ladies on this site , but someday …
February 5th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
This site inspires me as does a dear friend who told me about it. I’m 64 yrs old and just beginning to knit. I don’t have the “finese” that others do but I love to feel the yarn and the peace and quietness of the activity. If I win I book I’d love to give it to my friend “Linda”.
February 5th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
That sounds wonderful, I hope I can make it!
February 5th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Wow - what a great line-up of classes! If I wasn’y a nursing Mama, I’d so be there - maybe next year!
February 5th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
I would love to be there…
Timing is not that great : daughter is graduating high school in June.. Maybe I should stay around.
February 5th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
I could do with some peace, tranquility ,and inspiration at the moment and the lakes and the books would be just the thing!
Would help if I lived in the USA and not the UK….
February 5th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
Sounds like a lovely time. Wish I could come but my babies would miss me :o)
February 5th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
This looks amazing! I may just have to mess with my summer schedule now… :)
February 5th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
I am so jealous–have friends with “camps” on Squam and am a former New Hampshire-ite. Knitting up on Squam sounds idyllic. We are so homesick, despite how beautiful it is here in the Chesapeake Bay area.
February 5th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Wow Im so sad not living in the US
February 5th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Wow, this looks like such a cool event!!! I wish I actually had traveling funds, I would be there in a heartbeat!
February 5th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
that sounds fantabulous! i especially like the free-form knit & crochet class.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Sounds much better than being at work.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
The whole thing sounds wonderful! I will need to look at my calender to see what is going on at that time. Oh to be by a lake! Love any place near the water!
February 5th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
I want to go to Squam, but since I can’t, can I read about it here?
February 5th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
I wish I could go, I planned my vacation for July. Maybe I can join in the fun another year. Oh, and those pictures look oh so lovely on this 20 degree day!
February 5th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Wow this looks fantastic! I’m going to look into attending this.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Summer at Squam sounds like heaven any day, even on a beautiful day in Boston or anywhere else. It’s truly a special lake and so far hasn’t been ruined by overbuilding, etc. Add some people enjoying their crafts — it’s the icing on the cake. Or some ice cream from the creamery in Sandwich. A MacArthur Genius Award to whoever organized this adventure.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Hi, The books are intriguing and the workshop sounds delightful! Looking for details on attending.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
What a mental health break to look at sunny pics of Squam lake today — after yet another morning of searching for everryone’s hats and mittens . . .
I have to see if I can run away to Squam to squander and dream (which is the word combo I think of whenever I hear the name).
February 5th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
darkalice syas hi! this truly looks lovely and I’ve actually been to Squam Lake. Word of advice bring lots of bug repellant! Black fly and mosquito bites suck!
February 5th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Can’t believe I live in CT and have never been there. Can’t wait to go - planning on September retreat - and experience creative bliss! Thanks for such an inspiring event to look forward to!
February 5th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
What a heavenly idea! I’d even come from California to see that beautiful place - oh yeah - knitting classes too!
February 5th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
I just got some beaded silk yarn and I want to name whatever project I use it for “Ordinary Sparkling Moments.” What a marvelous title.
February 5th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
I just went to Amazon and read through all the reviews of “Ordinary Sparkling Moments”. It sounds like an amazing read!
February 5th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
What lovely pictures! I needed them after cold Wisconsin weather. I would love to come to some of the classes- especially the embellishing and making the most of my yarn colloection. I also need the freestyle knitting class as I am always thinking “what if” and that gets in the way of the creative juices flowing!
Please share more pics in the future. =)
February 5th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
I’m seriously considering this retreat. The idea of it makes me remember other lakeside experiences in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire.
February 5th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Hi it looks brilliant, exactly what i would need in this gloomy February
You know i’m so jealous of all these knitting retreats and fiber fairs you have in the us ; we have nothing like that in France.. you lucky guys !
February 5th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
It looks absolutely at Squam Lake. I’d never heard of the camps, but it looks like something worth looking into. Actually, there should be a get-away here in Arizona during your long cold winters!
February 5th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
The books and the retreat look totally fun and relaxing…
February 5th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Lovely give away. I’d love to win. Thanks so much for the offer! I love findding little bits of inspiration, especially during a cold winter!
February 5th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Wonderful giveaway, I would love to win…. Sparkling moments are few and far between right now…
Sounds like a wonderful retreat.
February 5th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
I would love to go. Hopefully by June the finances will allow a trip. The classes sound interesting. And of course we all need to add to our book collections. The Lake looks lovely.
February 5th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Wow, I am seriously wishing I could go and take some of those classes. Maybe if I wish hard enough my wish will come true? The top picture is so serene, calm and peaceful.
February 5th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
What a lovely location for a retreat! I would love to attend.
February 5th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
“If I could only get yarn the color of this water….”
February 5th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
I cannot think of a better way to spend the first weekend in June!! A nice start to the summer school break (gulp!)!!
February 5th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Thanks for the info on the Ravelry workshop–this looks like the perfect place for knitting, learning, community and relaxation.
February 5th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
I think I just might squeeze in here and win a book….
February 5th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
I have been to Rockywold-Deephaven twice for a Become an Outdoor Woman weekend. It is a fabulous place! The cabins are all great, rustic but with all the amenities. They even have an ice house that supplies all the cabins with ice for their iceboxes (fridges). The food is excellent. I am sure it will be a great weekend! What an excellent place to knit and commune with nature!
February 5th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
Probably too late, but not too late to say this workshop really looks good!
February 5th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
The classes look great, and what an opportunity to share with other folks whose interests are similar. I love the idea (even if I don’t win a book!).
February 5th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
I contend that the worst thing about adulthood is the lack of summer camps. Thanks for fixing that. The retreat sounds amazing.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
This whole camp idea is like a dream come true to me.
As I sat on our front porch in the early morning
knitting (of course) at Rockywold last summer, I thought
that wouldn’t be a wonderful idea if there could be
some sort of knitting camp there because it just such
a perfect place for one. Can’t wait.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
I’ve always wanted to go to sleepaway camp! I’ll bet I would get so much more out of it as an adult too!
February 5th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Wish I could have been there. Beautiful pix.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
Fiber Arts + Lakeside = Serenity :-) So may fascinating classes! Will wishing hard make it possible for me to go? Hoping my finances improve before the deadline!
February 5th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Looks like fun! Knitting, yoga and sun!
February 5th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
How ironic, I just logged on to ravelry, and I saw a familiar picture. My husband is flying to Boston tomorrow to meet up with his sister. Then they drive up to her lake home on Squam Lake. When I saw there was going to be a retreat in June. I live in Wisconsin and was planning a trip to Squam Lake in July, I might just have to move that up!!!!!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
This looks like a really fun event - creativity and nature go hand in hand.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Hey, isn’t Squam Lake where On Golden Pond was filmed? Beautiful place! I’ll be with you in spirit!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
I. want. one. Not. particular.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:47 pm

February 6th, 2009 at 12:15 am
I want to sit on that rock and knit.
February 6th, 2009 at 1:09 am
Wahoo! Looks like fun!
February 6th, 2009 at 5:36 am
Nice idea, definitely within driving range for me, but too pricey for me. Does no one ever share their knowledge for free anymore? I never paid for lessons or classes… I learned for free, I share what I learned for free…
Beautiful pictures of the camp and lake. Have fun there.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:19 am
What a great idea. Time to knit, relax and talk to other knitters. Sounds heavenly. Hope you all enjoy it.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:19 am
The pictures of the lake mirror the serenity that I feel while I knit.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:42 am
It looks heavenly.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:50 am
Wish I were there right now! I’ve seen nothing but snow for so long….
February 6th, 2009 at 8:56 am
the classes look fab….love the photos too.
February 6th, 2009 at 9:11 am
Books??I love books!!! and these all look wonderful, can’t wait to see who gets them :-)
(keeping my own fingers crossed)
Debi
February 6th, 2009 at 9:12 am
Yay books!!
February 6th, 2009 at 9:45 am
Oh, I wish I could go and take that class on printmaking and also the botanical freezer-print one and maybe that one on knitting lace, and maybe the one on watercolor painting….
Unfortunately, I already have all my summer ducks in a row. (A book would be the next best thing, though!)
February 6th, 2009 at 10:26 am
Thanks for the link to the bluepoppy blog. Today’s post spoke to me - the struggle with the cluttered desk .. should do it but the mind has other(so very many other) ideas.
February 6th, 2009 at 11:50 am
I want to win books!
February 6th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Oh I wish I could go! I grew up near there and it is VERY beautiful.
February 6th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Oh, what a fun time that will be. Wish I could go! Ordinary Sparkling Moments has to go onto my reading list.
February 6th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
I live in Merrimack NH - not too far away. I’ll have to investigate this further :-D
February 6th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
It sounds wonderful and looks beautiful. I wish there was something like this for people who were broke and out of work though. It is so hard to make ends meet these days, coming up with almost a thousand dollars when we are supporting 5 kids and arent working is awful. I hope you all have a great time, my spirit is with you though I am so far away….
February 6th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Wow…now I know what I want for my birthday. It seems the hardest part is picking which class(es) to take.
February 6th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
This sounds absolutely wonderful, but I have to agree with Jeanne. This is just not a possibility in these hard economic times. Maybe next year things will be better. Travel where the wind will take you.
February 6th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
Yet another reason to miss the States :/ I envy each end every one of you right now… especially those who get to hang at Squam Lake ;)
February 6th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I love New Hampshire, and usually visit Lake Winnipesaukkee twice a year - but so far never been to Squam Lake which looks just as beautiful and is probably a lot quieter too!
February 6th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
HEY! FYI, there’s another chance to win a copy of Ordinary Sparkling Moments– Denise (boho girl) is doing a giveaway at her site: link below!
http://bohophotography.blogspot.com/2009/02/delicious-giveaway.html
Good luck1 It’s a fabulous book!!
February 6th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
I like to read.
So I would like a chance.
The getaway sounds fun.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
I love Squam and Winnipesaukee, wish I could go but school isn’t out until mid month. Enjoy, be sure to see all there is to see around both lakes.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Wish I could go to this event.
February 6th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Sounds amazing. I hope our family will be able to go to something like this someday. In better economic times perhaps……
February 6th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Always looking for a good book! Please enter me… :)
February 7th, 2009 at 4:50 am
These look like wonderful books!
February 7th, 2009 at 8:55 am
Sounds like fun - sorry I can’t make it. Hope you all will come to Stitches south in April! It is going to be my 1st fiber related event.
February 7th, 2009 at 9:25 am
Sounds like heaven.
February 7th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
I am definitely considering it! What a treat! It sounds wonderful! I love New Hampshire’s Lakes Region and points north and it would be a great setting to learn new skills and get back to what I love doing!
February 7th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Oooooh, I’d love to go to this! Sounds wonderful, and it’s a beautiful area!
February 7th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Unbelievable - knitting classes close to home and in a wonderful setting. sign me up!
February 7th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Wow, so close I hope I can make it!!!
February 7th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
Boy do I wish I could go!! Can’t wait until my girls are older so we can all go together. :D
February 7th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Is this kid friendly? I would love to go!
February 7th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Sounds fabulous!
February 7th, 2009 at 10:37 pm

February 8th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Sounds like a great time. NWRSA will be having their conference then. Hope someday to get back to that side of the U.S.
February 8th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Went to squam in 2008 and had a lovely time, I highly recommend :)
February 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
This retreat looks wonderful! And close enough that I might possibly be able to make it!!
February 8th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
This is the first time I’ve been on the Ravelry site as I just received my account today. It looks like I’ll have fun on the site if there are drawings for interesting books, etc. and great retreats to learn about! I can’t wait to snoop around on the site now. Thanks.
February 8th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
What a beautiful picture! Would love to attend someday.
February 9th, 2009 at 9:17 am
woohoo! I got so excited about the workshops that I told about the whole thing to my bf and now we are planning a trip across the ocean to New Hampshire! We won’t be participating June’s workshops but there were some nice workshops in September also and then we’ll be able to go :>
February 9th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
This sounds wonderful. I have been to workshops- I have taught at workshops (in a different textile field) and they are all wonderful!! If this one fills up, maybe you could consider holding one in early July, so that classroom teachers stuck indoors could have something planned to let loose at when school ends?
C, in PA
February 9th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
I love Squam Lake! I haven’t been in a couple years, I should make my Dh take me up this year. His family owns on of the Three Sisters islands! His grandfather was a surgeon, and he traded some guy surgery that he needed for the island and a boat! It is so beautiful out there I think it was well worth the trade.
I wish I could go but we will be camping in PA that week, have a blast!
February 9th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
wow would I love to go. gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!
February 9th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Oh wow, the chance to win books! Books are only second to yarn. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
February 9th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
The pictures on this look so peaceful. Sure wish I could go.
February 9th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
Wow - wish I could be there right now!
Guess I will just have to ravel in my dreams for now:)
February 9th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
Sounds Like a wonderful weekend of finding new friends with similar interests.
February 9th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Thanks for the giveaway! Sounds like a wonderful place to be!
February 9th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
What a wonderful location. It sounds like the retreat will be nothing but relaxing and fun!
February 9th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Wow! Beautiful! I was in New Hampshire for the first time last fall and this looks like a wonderful reason to make a second trip!
February 9th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Squam is the place I envision when in the dentist’s chair or anytime I need instant peace! It’s the site of my children’s favorite childhood memories. I moved from NH 16 years ago, but keep a view of Squam as the wallpaper on my desktop. Knitting and sharing creative space in this setting sounds like heaven to me!
February 10th, 2009 at 11:03 am
This retreat looks amazing! The books look very interesting!
February 10th, 2009 at 11:24 am
The pic on the dock reminds me of a Minoan snake goddess.
February 10th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
I lived in NH for a short while, it is beautiful-especially when you can live or be near a lake. This sounds wonderful and brings back memories of dogs and kids paddling about while parents sit in collapsible chairs and read the NY Times and drink Mimosas out of a thermos on Sunday morning. (or knitting!)
February 10th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
I love sparkling moments - makes me smile. Hope I win - I’ll smile even more

I saw the info on Ravelry, e-mailed for MORE info,
bought my airline ticket and sent in my registration this morning-I’m taking my 60-year-old-young-at-heart-self to summer camp!!!!I can’t wait!

I wish I could attend! Maybe next year. Meanwhile winning the book would make my day so much nicer.

Oh, sadly I can’t dream about traveling to the other side of the world to have workshops… Sounds tempting tough.
But seeing your web pages was also inspiration to hook up with my friend who is handcraf teacher to plan our own art workshop. Dancing and knitting… I want to combine those two. And perhaps someday I get to travel to the other side of the world to teach moving in nice surroundings :)

Oh how I wish that I could go! Sounds divine…
February 10th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
What a beautiful picture, it looks so restful and energizing; a great place to recharge one’s creative juices. Wish I could go!
February 11th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
How I dream about going to workshops in beautiful places half way around the world!!
It looks like a inspiring place where many great creations will be dreamed of and made!
Lots of love and inspiration to all that go!
February 11th, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Man, I wish I still lived in Boston instead of Chicago!! I’d soooo be there!
February 11th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
so, my cousins totally have a camp of houses on that lake!
February 12th, 2009 at 7:28 am
Wow…that sounds so totally perfect. I live near a pretty amazing lake, myself, but I’d willing give body parts to visit another.

I would love to travel to New Hampshire. I use the photo of the woman on the lake as a zen, it looks so peaceful and spirit minded.

This event sounds absolutely wonderful, but it is light years from me. Maybe next year. On the other coast, we are holding a small but fun Fiber Retreat (it includes knitting!) on May 29-31, 2009 in Southern California. Is there a way to announce this event on Ravelry? I am still too new here to know my way around. — Dyemavin

Oh, that sounds wonderful, but it’s very far :(
February 12th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
As essentially a self-taught knitter, the idea of actually taking a knitting class seems novel and not part of my knitting experience. However, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to take a class. New Hampshire sounds like a great place to go and learn what I haven’t taught myself.
February 12th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Oh I dream of grown-up, knitting, summer camp. I going to go count my rain day change jar.
February 12th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Sounds like heaven!!!!!!!!!!1
February 13th, 2009 at 9:29 am
Lake Squam looks like a knitter’s heaven. I hope I can convince some of the knitters in our group to get together and chillax in the fresh air and knit!

I can picture myself standing on that dock. It is so peaceful, lovely photo…ciao

February 13th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
I would love to take part in something like that !

I am finally on Ravellry!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited to be here! Have tried two additional times then forgot the name, etc. This time I did follow up and here I am! So much to see and absorb and this posting about Squam is so enticing! What an array of classes to be taken. I am so jealous of those who can go. Unfortunately I have already committed to Stitches South but I can dream….
February 17th, 2009 at 1:24 am
Even the idea of being in New Hampshire sounds like a dream! But a retreat at Squam Lake takes my breath away!
February 17th, 2009 at 10:21 am
This sounds like pure heaven! Oh how I long to be surrounded by creative people…
February 17th, 2009 at 10:56 pm

Looks like a great place to be as well!

How I would love to go to Squam Lake - I live in UK but have visited NH a lot over the last 30 years as I have friends there and I know how beautiful it is. Can’t be done this year unfortunately as I have stuff going on here but maybe 2010?
February 18th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Doesn’t this look like a slice of heaven!
If I could figure out where to stash my kids, I would be there in a heartbeat.
February 18th, 2009 at 1:56 pm

I spent all of my summers on Squam lake…now I live in Upstate NY.

I am so envious of anyone who gets to go to the retreats I read about. Sometimes I think the outside world doesn’t exist anymore, like on the old Outer Limits tv shows. I would give anything to be able to afford to travel to them again. Give us lots of information about what you do and who you see while your there.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
With the dreary winter these picture look wonderful. I can hardly wait for better camping season. Sitting out in the woods with my knitting. When we go out in the canoe my yarn and needle will be along. The picture on the dock reminds me of all the wonderful lakes we visit in the Illinois State Parks.

I’m surrounded by a bleak damp English winter, longing for Spring and some colour in the sky and garden.
How I wish I could go to a retreat and spend time with people who love colour and fibre as I do. There’s nothing like that where I live in UK.
Trying to be cheerful, it won’t be too long before I can take my wheel outside and spin in the sunshine, heaven!
February 20th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
I would love to go to the retreat…but no chance. I am moving from MA to MD and starting a new job… Too much to do.
But the book would be lovely…
February 21st, 2009 at 12:46 am
Sounds like a great retreat.pitty I’m too far away to go.I would really enjoy a book

i won one of the books, “Roots and Recollections: A Century of Rockywold-Deephaven Camps”!!!
it is so amazing all the history and efforts put into these amazing places… it’s definitely sitting on my coffee table for all to look at, thank you so much for this giveaway!!!
