Happy Bobmas!
April 11th, 2008
It’s Bobmas day!
Bobmas? What is Bobmas?
Bobmas is the anniversary of Ravelry’s conception. The holiday was first discovered by rewselene, Ravelry street team / pep-squadder extraordinaire. (Rewselene has been off-Ravelry for a little while. Laurie: we’re all thinking of you and we hope that you are well. )

This is the very first Bobmas, so people are creating the traditions this year :) This is what we’ve got so far:
- Meetups! People have been organizing and holding all kinds of Bobmas Eve and Bobmas Day gatherings. If you have put any meetup photos on Flickr,
tag them with “bobmas” so that we can see them! - Cupcakes! We saw cupcakes in one meetup photo and we think that cupcakes would make a fine tradition. Time will only tell of the Eating of Cupcakes catches on.
- Yarn! There should definitely be yarn.
…I guess that’s all I’ve got for now! Thank you all for making a previously ordinary day into something fun! :)
I tried to take a Bobmas morning picture, but Bob didn’t really enjoy being woken up 5 hours early and shoved into a basket:

Happy Bobmas! and thank you so much for all you’ve done to give us such a wonderful site :)
April 11th, 2008 at 8:38 am
Happy Bobmas day!!
Today I wish I was in the US or some place where a bobmas gathering is being held :) I hope all of you who can get together have a nice gatherup and it sure will be extra fun on ravelry today!!!
Happy first aniversary, Jess, Casey, Bob and fellow ravelers :)
April 11th, 2008 at 8:46 am
OK, so on Christmas there was a little tree near the logo. On Hanukkah there was a little Menorah to designate the holiday. How come there’s no little Bob? (or at least a cupcake…) Huh huh huh?
April 11th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Happy Bobmas! :)
April 11th, 2008 at 8:50 am
Happy Bobmas Day! You bring joy to so many!
April 11th, 2008 at 8:54 am
I just realized that I left my camera cable in my office - hopefully, I can download the photos from the Burren later today or so, and I’ll post the good ones to flikr.
April 11th, 2008 at 8:54 am
How awesome that you were officially out of debt on Bobmas Eve! Thanks again for such an awesome product– I don’t know how we ever lived without Ravelry!
April 11th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Happy Bobmas! Thank you for all the hard work in keeping your wonderful creation going!
April 11th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Happy Bobmas!!!
Can’t think you enough for this wonderful site! I have already made lots of on-line friends. It’s so wonderful to chat with everyone!!
April 11th, 2008 at 8:59 am
Happy Bobmas! I will work less and knit more today in honor of the sacred holiday.
Thank you for Ravelry!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:04 am
The look on his face says it all!!!
Merry Bobmas to you!!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Happy Bobmas! I bet Bob will forgive you if he gets to participate in the Eating of Cupcakes. :)
April 11th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Bob wants a cupcake! (Heck, sounds like a good brekky to me!)
And, thanks for giving me permission to use the first official Bobmas photo on my blogpost!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:11 am
You’re in the black! Its a Bobmas Eve miracle!
I suggest a Bobmas tradition of the Secret Bob… you wrap up some yarn from your stash that has overstayed its welcome and trade with other ravelers… keep trading boxes throughout the meetup until the end. What you’ve got at the end is your detined Bobmas yarn!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:12 am
Merry Bobmas!!!
I’m so glad you created Ravelry! I come every day and check out the new patterns!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:13 am
You know for a dog with a holiday named for him, he sure looks UNHAPPY in that picture!
Happy Bobmas! I shall celebrate with knitting.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:13 am
Happy Bobmas
and Big Hugs for little Bob - what a picture
April 11th, 2008 at 9:17 am
Awww, so sorry Bob, but you are so cute and what would Bobmas be without Bob? LOL!!! Happy Bobmas, everyone!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Happy Bobmas!! I shall celebrate by subjecting my family, who will be stuck in a van with me for two hours, to the wonders of Ravelry, Bob, and knitting - and then the Eating of Cupcakes shall commence!!!
Poor Bob…he looks so sad. Maybe because that yarn isn’t actually his? ;)
April 11th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Aw poor Bob. He sure don’t look happy there! Not to worry Bob, I’m sure there are some special Bob biscuits coming your way today!! Woof Woof!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:26 am
I think waking Bob up five hours early for photos should be a tradition too. I’m sure he’ll return the favor more than once during the year. :P
poor sleepy Bob.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Just looking at Bob makes me smile. His expression always seems to say “look at what I have to put up with,” but I bet he’s spoiled rotten!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:30 am
HAPPY BOMBAS!!!!!
I WILL CELEBRATE THIS, AND MY BIRTHDAY OH SO VERY HEARTILY TONIGHT. LOL. SORRY FOR THE CAPS, KEY IS STUCK FOR SOME ODD REASON….
OH YES… THERE WILL BE CUPCAKES….
XO
J
April 11th, 2008 at 9:32 am
Bob bless us, every one.
(Ever watch Pinky and the Brain? Bob’s ears in this shot bear a remarkable resemblance to Pinky’s, and his expression and posture correspond to P’s tone of voice saying “If I could reach you…I would hurt you.” Maybe a caption contest? “Yarn or not, there’d better be coffee in that water bowl…”
April 11th, 2008 at 9:35 am
Happy Bobmas!! I’ll make sure to have a cupcake with my Friday night beer in your honor! :-D
April 11th, 2008 at 9:36 am
Bountiful Bobmas. I did not realize that the eve of Martine had another name.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:38 am
How about cupcakes made in Bob’s image????? Now that’s a tradition I could get into.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:40 am
You guys don’t know me (though I introduced myself to Jess at Stitches West) but it’s quite possible I’m Bob’s biggest fan-from-afar. The only celeb I’d read about in People, if I did that sort of thing. So I’m thrilled to learn about Bobmas! I’m going to tell my boss I’m taking the day off to celebrate and contemplate the cuteness and adorableness that is Bob. I’m sure he’ll understand…
April 11th, 2008 at 9:40 am
I think I’d like to interview Bob, just to see if he enjoys his sudden rise to internet superstar and how he’s handling the pressure.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:43 am
Happy Bobmas!! Ahh, Bobmas, the day in which I will always pause and give thanks to the gifts that Bob (and Jess and Casey) have given us. Thanks be to Bob!
In response to Pippicandy: I think cupcakes in Bob’s image would be fantastic.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Cupcakes are a wonderful tradition! Happy Bobmas!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:46 am
Happy Bobmas! I love Ravelry, and it is great to have a day to laud the brilliance of Jess, Casey and Bob. Thank you for everything.
p.s. I loved hat day!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Congrats on bobmas day.
Do we start to see Ravelry Anniversary cakes now, for when we joined Ravelry?
April 11th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Woohoo! Happy Bobmas, everyone!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Happy Bobmas! We love Bob and Jess and Casey
April 11th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Awww, sleepy Bob!
Happy BobMas!
April 11th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Awwwwww. He looks so spoiled. Maybe he’s getting too used to all that stash?!
April 11th, 2008 at 10:04 am
ROFL! Bob may not be happy, but he sure looks cute! Happy 1st Bobmas, Jess & Casey, may there be many more joyous Bobmases, and thanks again for all the wonders of Ravelry.
April 11th, 2008 at 10:06 am
::squeezes Bob::
April 11th, 2008 at 10:09 am
Merry Bobmas!
Cupcakes sound like a perfect tradition: Cupcakes, yarn and knitting. What could be better?!
Here’s to many more!
April 11th, 2008 at 10:23 am
Oh my. Bob looks very confused by it all.
April 11th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Can you imagine what it would be like without Ravelry? Noooooo! So I shall hold Bobmas as a sacred day and make sure I surround myself with yarn, cupcakes and knitters.
April 11th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Merry Bobmas!
Here’s to a stellar idea and an adorable canine. :)
April 11th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Happy Bobmas to all!! I will be sure to have a drink in celebration of Bobmas and Ravelry :)
April 11th, 2008 at 10:36 am
This whole “get out of debt” campaign, in correlation with the advent of Bobmas, is making me think of “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
Hmm… maybe I should devise a Bobmas wreath and Advent cupcake candles… 1 for each week leading up to the Big Day, with the last candle being lit on the anniversary of no-more-startup-debt.
Eh, I’m a lazy knitter. I think I’ll just buy cupcakes on my way to knit group tonight and celebrate with the girls.
Cupcakes + yarn + cute pictures of Bob = Best Holiday EVAR.
April 11th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Happy Bobmas. Tell Bob thats it a hard knock life being an icon.
April 11th, 2008 at 10:47 am
How awesome!!! I have to say I love this cutie pie puppy poo…he almost makes me want to trade my three kitties for one like him! ;)
April 11th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Happy Bobmas! It looks like Bob had a little too much fun on Bobmas Eve. Thanks, Jess and Casey - I’m dedicating my second sock to you.
April 11th, 2008 at 10:52 am
I really find it hard to believe that The Eating of Cupcakes will not catch on. Happy Bobmas to all!
April 11th, 2008 at 10:54 am
Happy Bobmas! What a wonderful day it is!
April 11th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Awww poor Bob!!!
He’s definitely asleep in this pic LOL :)
I promise to do some cupcakes next year, happy Bobmas to you all!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 11th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Merry Bobmas from my Bob (ha-ha a shepherd mix) to Yours!
April 11th, 2008 at 11:06 am
Happy Bobmas! Thanks Casey & Jenn for all you do for us. I wish I looked as good as Bob when someone wakes me up 5 hours early, lol.
April 11th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Sorry, Jess, I can’t type today, and those keys aren’t even on the same hand, hahaha
April 11th, 2008 at 11:17 am
**love**
Happy Bobmas!!
April 11th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Congratulations! I think a Bob-amiguruni pattern needs to be designed, to honor the occasion…
April 11th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Merry Bobmas to all, and to all a good Bob!!!!
Thanks, Bob, Casey, and Jess for creating such an amazing and wonderful place!

love love it!!
good choice……………..like minds…………jk
April 11th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Personally, I wish Bobmas brought Boston Terriers to us all. I don’t need cupcakes, and I’m out of room for yarn, but I got room for a Bob Dog. Your pictures make me miss my family’s dogs.
April 11th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Dear Bob,
For Bobmas I would like a puppy, and yarn.
Love,
MelissaKnits
April 11th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Happy Bobmas! In honour of this day, I will go out and purchase yarn!
April 11th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Funny, I LOVE being woken up 5 hours early and shoved into baskets. Eh, to each his own, I suppose! Happy Bobmas, and hooray for cupcakes and yarn!!!! Thank you all for everything!
Bob bless us, everyone!
April 11th, 2008 at 12:03 pm

Hugs and big time Congrats
Patt
April 11th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Congrats:-) You have created an amazing place to be. Poor Bob though…he had to raise early for the photo. He deserves a hug, and a cookie. Best wishes!
April 11th, 2008 at 12:12 pm

April 11th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
OMG! I’m getting married tomorrow… on Bobmas! Happy Bobmas!!! I will NEVER forget it now!!! You guys have done such an amazing job with this place! *hugs*
April 11th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
omg…..poor Bob! He looks so “thrilled” with you to be taking that picture. It reminds me of dressing up my cat’s in my doll clothes and riding them around in my baby carriage.
April 11th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Bob in a basket! I love it!
April 11th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Huh, I’m thinking “the Eating of Cupcakes” is a great idea. Heh… thanks Bob!
April 11th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
What could be better than eating cupcakes and playing with yarn? Happy Bobmas!
April 11th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
That is one grumpy looking pup!!!
April 11th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Oh Joy! Happy Bobmas Day! And Thank-you Casey, Jess and Bob for the wonder of Ravelry! I have learned so much and made new friends here!
Let them eat cupcakes!
April 11th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Happy Bobmas to all, and to all a good night! Especially Bob, who looks like he could use one. Thanks for Ravelry!!
April 11th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
I shall eat a cupcake-or ten-to celebrate the day.
April 11th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
That is so cool. I hope that you patented it, and I hope the site continues to be the great site that you envisioned.
April 11th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
In addition to the traditional “eating of the cupcakes”, I think one could include those “Black and White” cookies to honor Bob.
Now I’ll “have” to go buy some chocolate Tastykakes with white butter cream frosting!
Next year, you’ll have to let us know when it’s Bobmas Eve.
April 11th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
I knew today was special when I woke up. Now I know why.
April 11th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Well, Berry Bobmas everyone! This is quite awesome. I don’t have a meet-up I can go to, but there is a fabulous Beer Cupcake recipe on Beer Group discussion page. I have made them before and I will make them again tonight in celebration of Bobmas. Yay!
April 11th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Happy Bobmas, everybody!
April 11th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Yeah! Happy Bobmas Day! Cupcakes for everyone!!!

April 11th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Happy Bobmas!!!!!! Congratulations to all of you! :-)
April 11th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Happy Bobmas to all! I think the Eating of the Cupcake is a wonderful tradition and am off to perform this sacred ritual.
April 11th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Someone should make some of these cupcakes… http://makingfoodeatingfood.blogspot.com/2007/09/knit-cupcakes.html
Bob would like them, as long as there’s no chocolate. Chocolate is bad for Bob.
April 11th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
But really, who would want to be woken and stuffed in a basket… even if the holiday was named after them.
April 11th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Happy Bobmas Day.
Thank you for such an incredible site.
April 11th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Happy Bobmas!! Thanks for Ravelry - I really love it!
April 11th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
How cool! You put Ravelry in the black before the anniversary.
April 11th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Happy Bobmas! Ravelry has changed my life ;) thank you!
April 11th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Hi, Bob. It is always a pleasure to see a new photo of you. I trust you are happy and well. Many thanks to Jess and Casey for a marvelous first year.
April 11th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Happy Bobmas everyone! Ravelry is the most interesting, helpful, brilliant, hugely fun place I’ve ever been. And it definitely is a community, a home, a gathering spot, with a life of it’s own. I cannot imagine my life without the Big Rav now! Thank you to Jess and Casey and, of course, Bob, for this wonderful place called Ravelry. :O)
April 11th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
HAPPY BOBMAS! YAY!
…it’s, also, my half birfday, so even more reason to celebrate! :: cheese ::
April 11th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Clearly Bob is unhappy because he doesn’t know about the tradition to give him treats on Bobmas day :)
Thanks for ravelry!
April 11th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Poor baby! He looks just like a toddler with that “Why, oh why, is mommy/daddy doing this to me? I wanna sleeeeeeeeeeep” look. \
Hey Bob…Jackson and Buckwheat here in Missouri say woof, woof, woof, arf, yip, woof or something to the effect of “we soooooo understand, dude…just humor the pitiful humans….they have the food.”
April 11th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Darnnit if I knew this was coming up I would have made some cupcakes! Ah well I guess there is always next year. Congradulations guys :D
April 11th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
Happy Bobmas Day everyone! Thanks for bringing Ravelry to the masses. I will celebrate with not only cupcakes, but Babkas (which Congress should officially name Bobka).
The season snuck up on me, next year I will put up my Bobmas tree and send out hand-knit Bobmas gifts.
JingleBob, Jinglebob…Knitting all the way…Oh what fun it is to play on Rav-el-ry all daaaayyyyy!
April 11th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
… and a yarney Bobmas to us all!
I just loved the picture of Bob this morning!!
April 11th, 2008 at 6:13 pm

April 11th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Ha ha! Poor Bob. What a good sport.
April 11th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Dear Bob,
I’ve left a cupcake out for you for putting up with all of us.
P.S.
It’s from my bestest beef cake recipe. Hope you enjoy it :)
April 11th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Merry Bobmas! I am so glad to be here for the celebration of this day! Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. :)
April 11th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
And a happy Bobmas to you! I will be dreaming of cupcakes now…
April 11th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

April 11th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
What a great picture! Poor Bob…
April 11th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Bob, Bob, Bob, you look so sad. Cheer up and start celebrating fella.
Take care.
April 11th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Poor Bob!
“You guys insist I leave Mom’s yarn alone. Then you spill it out of its basket and pose me in a picture that makes me look like I’ve dumped out the yarn.”
“I’ve been framed!”
April 12th, 2008 at 1:04 am
Getting out of debt on Bobmas Eve! “It’s a Wonderful Yarn!” Can we get Jimmy Stewart?
Our Friday Night knitting group had a terrific Bobmas celebration. We had yarn, general rejoicing, and the Eating of Cupcakes.
I’m working on Bob carols for next year. Might start with “Good stitches we bring to all Ravelry. We wish you a merry Bobmas and happy new yarn.”
April 12th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Yippee! My birthday and Bobmas are the same day! Too cool.

http://images3.ravelry.com/bob/bobbasket.jpg
Is this the image of a bouncy dog? Is this the image of a knitter who just can’t get his knitting together, and make a choice as to what yarn he will use next? Is this a picture of a dog with the expression of, “omg, I have to be in the basket again”? Is this the picture of a dog who wants to go out and chase a ball and lift his leg on some unsuspecting delicate spring flowers at the neighbors house? Does this dog have ” stage mother and father”? Call Ceaser Milan, the Dog Whisperer and have him train the owners as to what dogs really want, quick now. LOL
April 12th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
It’s hell having to work on Bobmas!!!
(Are we going to start celebrating Bobmas Eve? Good, cause I did last night!)
Happy Bobmas to all! And to all a Good Knit!
April 12th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
This year, for Bobmas, I am celebrating a day late by painting my new knitting (and sewing) room. My dear fiance; he has dedicated this little room to me now, at the inception of our life together, not realizing that in 30 years time, the yarn will have taken over the rest of the house. May Bobmas prevail!
April 12th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
We wish you a merry Bobmas, we wish you a merry Bobmas, we wish you a merry Bobmas - and a happy second year!
Thanks for all your hard work. Ravelry is the best!
April 12th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
I hope you all had a wonderful yarn and cupcake filled Bobmas!
I made my first contribution today. Woot!
April 13th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
I love Ravelry, I’m not using it to the fullest but still love it.
I’m unemployed but will be happy to contribute once my checking account isn’t squeaking. :-)
Thank you so much for your creativity and kindness in sharing this!

April 13th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Bless his sweet little heart. 5 hours early - oh how mean you are LOL. I hope he was allowed to go back to bed :- Happy Bobmas you three!!!
April 13th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Oh my gosh, he looks so sad!
Well worth upsetting him though, as the picture is ADORABLE!
April 13th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
OMG!!!
Have you ever felt REALLY bad about something you’ve done, and not even known what it was that you did wrong? Like that ole 7th grade thing where all of a sudden your friends are all whispering behind your back and you have no clue why!?! (I don’t know if that is typical 7th grade stuff - but it was MY 7th grade LOL!!!) Where your stomach hurts, and you’re racking your brain, replaying everything over in your mind trying to find something that is “tick off material”?!?
I was feeling so sad and wondering what I did wrong - to have my post deleted from this article - until I figured out that I posted to Jess’s blog and not here - oh my - scared me to death LOL! I was already trying to figure out how to even ASK why it had been deleted - arrrrrrrrrrrgh silly me!!!!!
At any rate - and now late here…..HAPPY BOBMAS! :)
April 14th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
I just want to say that I really love Bob and wish I could adopt him (although I know he has a very loving home!). He’s just adorable and fabulous. Happy Bobmas!
April 15th, 2008 at 2:05 am
Hope we can all keep the Spirit of Bobmas in our souls all year round!
April 15th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Poor Bob!! I think he is thinking that Bob should be allowed to sleep in on Bobmas Day. He should at least get a cupcake!
April 15th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
This really gave me a chuckle…What did I ever do to deserve this?!? look. Bob looks just a little pissed. How could anyone be that miserable surrounded by all that yarn…lol
Thanks for the laugh…Poor Bob!
Karen
April 15th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Bet a cupcake would have made Bob Happier!
At least it always works for me!
April 16th, 2008 at 6:25 am
Is Bob a Boston Terrier? He’s so photogenic and such a ham!
April 17th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Bob needs his beauty sleep!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
This photo reminds me of an old Life in Hell comic by Matt Groening - big mess, small animal and the caption ‘mistakes were made’.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:50 pm
I just stumbled on to Ravelry today, and am sitting quietly waiting for my invite. I must say I can’t wait! Not only is this an awesome yarn/knitting website but there are also Bostons involved! I’ve found Heaven.
Also, How did you get Bob to not eat your yarn? Craig (my BT) likes to take the end an unravel the skein while doing laps around the couch.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:08 pm
I like how Bob is just chilling out in the basket. Too bad he doesn’t have needles or a hook!
April 24th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Hahahaha! I LOVE that picture of Bob!!!
April 26th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
WILL YOU GET OUT OF HERE AND GIVE ME SOME PRIVACY! @&*$%#~**#^%@, what’s this world coming to when ya can’t even take a dump without an audience………….sigh
is my comment, this month, on Rich BOB and this pic.
I love, love, love RAVELRY!
Sally
